Kick-Start Conversion Kit

Lots of Harley riders want that kicker pedal on the right side of the bike. On a nostalgia custom, an old-school bobber or a chopper it’s just about mandatory. Without that pedal something important is missing. Baker’s F5K conversion kit adds that all-important option, and does it while retaining complete compatibility with the factory-installed electricstart system. It’s the best of both worlds. Push a button when no one’s looking, kick that Harley to life when the crowd’s watching. The F5K is available for direct fitment on all the 1989 through 2006 factory 5-speed transmissions and on Baker’s own Direct Drive 5-speeds. Bear in mind, though, that the installed kit won’t clear most factory exhausts and fuel-injected bikes will need to be converted to carburetion. Twin Cam models will need an ignition retrot, too, either a cam-type sensor or a magneto and Evos must use a kickstart compatible ignition system. But hey, you’re going old-school here. You give a little, you get a little and with the Baker F5K you’re getting more than just a little. This kit has addressed all the problems inherent with kickstart conversions of the past. Over the years kick-start conversion kits have come onto the market and disappeared just as fast. All for the same reason: they relied on a ratchet hub or shaft extension that screwed onto the end of the mainshaft in place of an American 3/4-16 Nyloc jam nut. It was a awed design. With every kick this
retainer continuously got tighter and tighter on the threads of the mainshaft, eventually snapping of the end of the mainshaft itself. The Baker F5K doesn’t work that way. Correcting the situation, the Baker kit uses a larger diameter mainshaft bearing to house the ratchet gear, the ratchet gear becomes the support for the mainshaft and
the mainshaft is retained by a nut just like the factory did it. There’s no extra stress put onto the shaft.The result is the most reliable kit available. The F5K also features Baker’s Klassic Kicker Gears. Extra tough, the big “crank” gear is made from 1018 HR steel and the starter gear and ratchet hub are made from 8620 gear steel. The covers are offered with either mechanical cable ball-and-ramp style clutch actuation or hydraulic, and they’re both completely show polished.
